Pobal disseminates an annual questionnaire to early year’s services across the country to help inform both the Department of Children and Youth Affairs (DCYA) and Pobal on developments within the sector. The primary aim is to inform the management of the various Pobal/DCYA funding programmes and the survey also serves the information needs of other agencies within the sector and highlights trends across periods of time. The questionnaire is circulated to all services participating in the main DCYA funding programmes (Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE), Community Childcare Subvention (CCS) and Training and Employment Childcare Programmes (TEC)).

The Report Card on Physical Activity in Children and Youth is a means of collating all data related to children’s physical activity levels in a particular country and ‘grading’ the evidence using a grading system just like a school report card. It was first started in Canada and since then a further 14 countries including Ireland have taken part.
