Waterford Childcare Committee supports a range of actions to promote the development of oral language development in the early years. The Committee encourages parents and childcare practitioners to use all available resources to support and guide their work on literacy and numeracy in the childcare settings.
The main guides which have been made available to all childcare services are “Early Literacy Matters” and “Early Speech and Language Matters” which were developed through Barnardos and written by Dr Geraldine French.
The “Happy Talk Project” in Cork has been a very successful initiative with childcare services and parents in supporting the development of early literacy and numeracy with young children. Happy Talk Resources
